Stars Abroad: Maxi and Stoinis off to a winning start

The domestic season has officially wrapped up in Australia but for many of our internationals the cricketing year is just getting started.

Two of our favourites kicked started their IPL campaigns last week, with Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis helping guide the Punjab Kings to a thrilling 11-run win over the Gujarat Titans.

Our boys impacted with both bat and ball, with Stoinis scoring valuable late innings runs, making 20 off 15, while Maxi dismissed the dangerous Shubman Gill.

It was their first win under new coach Ricky Ponting.

Meanwhile, Rhys McKenna scored 25 in Australia A’s narrow 3-wicket loss in their T20 clash with England A Women at Hurstville Oval. Both sides will now turn their attention to Wednesday’s One-Dat match in Sydney.

Finally, a fighting half-century and four-wickets from Mark Steketee was not enough, as Queensland went down to South Australia in the Sheffield Shield final. Mitch Swepson also chipped in, taking two wickets for the match.
