Dear Stars Members and Fans,
I hope you enjoyed a wonderful holiday period and had plenty of fun watching what was an amazing summer of cricket, perhaps the biggest we’ve ever encountered in this country. It was great to see so many of you at the MCG throughout the season as we reached our first BBL Finals series since BBL|09.
For the third consecutive year, thanks to you, we broke our membership record as a club and we saw an average of 26,939 fans at the MCG across the tournament; our highest since BBL|07. There is no doubt the BBL is back and is once again a staple of the Australian summer.
New captain Marcus Stoinis had a wonderful tournament, leading the team through a tremendously difficult start and much credit has to be given to him and coach Peter Moores for keeping the team and the environment calm and level when things could have easily gone off track.
Credit must also go towards Glenn Maxwell who played some of the most exhilarating and important innings during his time in green. Both Glenn and Marcus were named in the team of the tournament, due recognition of their great seasons.
Tomorrow we will release an in-depth chat with coach Peter Moores and as members I encourage you to watch it as he takes you behind the scenes of the BBL|14 season. You may have seen snippets of it across our social media this week.
The work doesn’t stop now, however, as the list management team have outlined a number of needs to fill on the list. The inaugural free agency window is open and we have already begun to add to the list as we welcomed NSW fast bowler Liam Hatcher back to the Stars yesterday.
We can only sign 12 players by the end of the two-week period so please don’t be despondent if your favourite Stars remains uncontracted; under BBL rules we just aren’t able to sign them yet!
As members, you are the most important people at the club and we want to hear from you. I encourage you to fill out the members survey you will be sent in February.
We know not everyone’s cricket season has finished so to those of you who are playing over the next few months, good luck and I look forward to seeing you all at a Stars event at some point this year before we head into WBBL|11 and BBL|15.
