The Melbourne Stars have toppled the Sydney Sixers in Hilton Cartwright’s 100th BBL match at the MCG to keep their unbeaten start to 2025 alive.

Setting 157 to win from 20 overs, Glenn Maxwell shone with the bat recording an unbeaten 58 from 32 balls and in the process surpassing the 3,000 BBL run mark.

In his 115th match, Maxwell becomes the fifth BBL player to reach this milestone.

Returning from Test match duties, Beau Webster was key in providing support to the batting lineup, notching 48 runs from 41 balls.

Peter Siddle wound back the clock with figures of 2-26 from 4 overs, while Usama Mir spun a web across the Sixers lineup, with figures of 2-19 from 4 overs.

It was Mark Steketee who finished the night as the leading wicket taker for the Stars with 3-14 from 3 overs.

The Stars now turn their attention to the second instalment of the Melbourne Derby for BBL|14 at Marvel Stadium this Sunday.
