Stars fall short in home opener

The Melbourne Stars were unable to hold off the Brisbane Heat in the first match at the MCG for BBL|14.

Marcus Stoinis became just the second player in club history to reach the milestone of 100 games played for the Melbourne Stars.

The all-rounder and captain put in a fighting effort making 26 with the bat and taking 1-20 from four overs with the ball.

Sam Harper top-scored for the Stars with 46 from 36 deliveries, whilst Joe Clarke also supported with 32 from 23.

The Heat were able to chase down the target of 162 in the 19th over with Jimmy Peirson making 72 runs in a Player of the Match performance.

Hamish McKenzie also took his first wicket as a Star bowling Jack Wood.

The Stars now travel to Adelaide to face the Strikers on Friday.
