Explosive English opener lands at the Stars

Ben Duckett has been announced as the first ever number 1 pick for the Melbourne Stars in the BBL|14 Overseas Player Draft.

The left-handed opening batter has been in career best form, most recently with the Phoenix in the Hundred, scoring 269 runs in just 7 innings at a strike rate of over 171. Duckett has previously spent time with the Brisbane Heat.

The club's preselection, Tom Curran was taken at Pick 9 and will make his debut for the Stars this season after signing a 2-year deal with the club.

Curran will bring plenty of BBL experience to the Stars with the ability to bowl at both ends of the innings and has become increasingly damaging with the bat.

With their final selection, the Stars took Usama Mir at Pick 24, who returns to the club after making his debut in BBL|13.

Mir took 5 wickets last season and had an economy rate of 6 or under in 3 of the 5 innings he bowled.

Current BBL|14 Squad: Scott Boland, Hilton Cartwright, Tom Curran (ENG), Ben Duckett (ENG), Sam Harper, Campbell Kellaway, Glenn Maxwell, Hamish McKenzie, Usama Mir (PAK), Joel Paris, Tom Rogers, Mark Steketee, Marcus Stoinis, Beau Webster
