Fresh from a successful international series against India, Sutherland's extension will see her in green until at least the end of the WBBL|09 season.
Left-arm spinner Sophie Day, who made her debut in 2020, has committed until the end of the 2022 season.
Day said she was thrilled to be back for Team Green.
“We’ve got such a good group of players here in Hobart, you can feel the excitement building as we get closer to our first game on Thursday.”
Melbourne Stars WBBL Head Coach Jarrad Loughman said Day and Sutherland were important players for the team, on and off the field.
“Annabel is a powerful all-rounder and she’s gained valuable experience playing with the Australian team these past few weeks. She has the ability to play all the power shots but can also be crafty in her placement of the ball” Loughman said.
“Sophie has the ability to take crucial wickets with her left arm spin, which has proven game-changing in the past. Sophie brings an extensive knowledge of sharp fielding and technical skills, making her a vital asset to round out our line up."
Melbourne Stars General Manager Blair Crouch echoed Loughman’s sentiments.
“We’ve been watching Annabel’s performance on Channel 7 these past few weeks, and to have that experience and level of success already under her belt, it will hopefully give her the right momentum heading into this tournament."
“Sophie proved herself an integral team member last season. We have seen her in action this week during training and her focus is unwavering. She’s done a lot of work with the coaching team and that hard work is really starting to show in all facets of her game.”
The Stars play the Sydney Sixers in the opening fixture of Weber WBBL|07, kicking off the tournament at Blundstone Arena before returning on Tuesday afternoon to face the Hobart Hurricanes.
